General
information
The AUA Health Clinic opened its doors first in 1994.
In July 2001 the Clinic was aligned under the Center for Health
Services Research and Development (CHSR) within the College of Health
Sciences.
The mission of the AUA Health Clinic is to address
primary health care needs of AUA students, faculty, and staff. In
addition to preventive health care and education, its services include
first aid and medical care for acute medical problems. Referrals
are provided for chronic care and conditions beyond the scope of
the clinic. Services within the clinic are free of charge. Medications
are limited, but the physician can order medications, which the
patients may purchase at nearby drugstores.
The AUA Health Clinic is open Monday through
Friday from 09:00 to 18:00 . Consultations are provided
by appointment or on a walk-in basis during morning sick call hours
(09:30-12:30). Emergencies may be seen anytime during operational
hours.

Health Screening Program
AUA Health Clinic sponsored and conducted
the Preventive Health Program 2002 in which health screening and
health promotion counseling were provided for approximately 130
University employees. Examples of the age-specific and gender specific
screening tests were the following: mammography, Pap smear, cholesterol
and glucose check, weight, and blood pressure check. Visual acuity
screenings were conducted at CHSR's Garo Meghrigian Eye Institute
for the Preventive Ophthalmology. Major areas of health promotion
counseling were in the areas of smoking cessation and recommended
dietary changes. The program was free of charge; discounted fees
were negotiated for those patients requiring follow-up referrals
at other health care facilities. Feedback from the program was positive
with recommendation for additional opportunities.
