AUA Board of Trustees Meeting Held at AGBU Headquarters
New York - Upon the invitation of AGBU President Berge Setrakian, on September 6, 2003 AUA held its annual meeting of the Board of Trustees at AGBU headquarters for the first time. Board members representing the AGBU and the University of California made a strong commitment to continue their partnership and cooperation, which was critical in founding AUA in 1991, to support the growth and development of the American University of Armenia (AUA).
The meeting was focused on the strategic direction of the University and its regional role in a fragile geo-political environment, in addition to identifying strategies to overcome the University's financial challenges during the economic downturn. At the meeting, Board members approved the appointment of Dr. Marianne Celce-Murcia, a distinguished linguist from UCLA, as Dean of the AUA's English programs and successor to the late Dr. Russ Campbell. Mr. Sam Simonian, AUA and AGBU Board member, was elected to succeed Mrs. Meredith Khachigian, former Regent of the University of California, as Chair of the Development Committee.
The American University of Armenia is affiliated with the Regents of the University of California and receives major support from the AGBU. AUA offers graduate education leading to the Masters Degree in eight fields of study. For more information about AUA, visit www.aua.am.
